How Do You Clean IQOS ILUMA i?
Quick answer: You don’t need to clean the inside of IQOS ILUMA i. IQOS UAE sells ILUMA as heated tobacco with no blade and no cleaning necessary. The only cleaning its UAE support pages mention is keeping the contacts between the Holder and the Pocket Charger clean, and on ILUMA i ONE the charging port. Keep the device between 0°C and 50°C.
A lot of people who’ve used older IQOS holders still ask us where the brush goes. It’s a fair question. The short version is that there isn’t one, and you don’t need it. Below we go through what IQOS UAE actually says, the few spots worth a look, and the things we’d never put near the device. Where the official pages are silent, we say so and leave it there.
Does IQOS ILUMA i need cleaning?
Not on the inside. On its UAE site, IQOS describes ILUMA as heated tobacco with no blade and no cleaning necessary.
That covers all three models we sell: ILUMA i ONE, ILUMA i and ILUMA i PRIME. There’s no blade sitting in the chamber for tobacco to stick to.
So no, there’s no weekly routine. No scrubbing either. If a page tells you to deep clean the chamber every few days, it isn’t quoting IQOS UAE.
What does need a bit of attention is the outside of the system, where power goes in. That’s the next part.
How do you clean the holder?
You leave the chamber alone and only look after the contacts and ports. IQOS UAE mentions two spots by name.
On ILUMA i and ILUMA i PRIME, it’s the contacts between the Holder and the Pocket Charger. The troubleshooting pages list “clean the contacts” as a step when the lights on the Holder won’t come on. The ILUMA diagnostic page suggests the same thing when the Holder charges slowly.
ILUMA i ONE is a single piece, so there’s no Holder to take out. Here IQOS UAE talks about the charging port instead. It asks you to make sure the ports on the device and on the cable are dry and free from dirt. If it won’t charge, it says the ports might need a clean.
This is how we’d do it:
- Turn it off first. Pull the cable out.
- On ILUMA i or PRIME, lift the Holder out of the Pocket Charger.
- Look at the contacts or the port. Is there dust, lint or sand in there?
- Gently clear it and make sure everything is dry.
- Put the Holder back, plug in again and watch the lights.
IQOS UAE doesn’t say which tool to use for that, so we won’t name one. Go gently, keep it dry, and stop there.

What should you never use?
Anything wet. IQOS UAE wants the ports dry, and none of its UAE pages tells you to use water, alcohol or any cleaning liquid on ILUMA i.
We’d also keep these away from it:
- Cleaning sticks and brushes made for older IQOS holders. ILUMA i has no blade for them to clean.
- Anything sharp poked into the chamber or the port.
- Sticks that aren’t TEREA. IQOS says ILUMA is built only for these, and it warns against using ILUMA sticks in older IQOS devices too.
And never pull a TEREA stick apart to “clear” something. Each stick has a sharp metal part inside. IQOS asks you not to take them apart or swallow them.
How do you store it in UAE heat?
Keep it somewhere between 0°C and 50°C. That’s the range IQOS UAE gives on its ILUMA diagnostic page.
If the device gets hotter or colder than that, it’ll tell you. Three white lights blink, and it won’t work until it’s back in range. Inside a parked car in a Dubai summer it gets hotter than that. So the dashboard and the glovebox are a no.
Take it inside and give it some time to cool. Then try it again. There’s nothing to clean in that case.
Your TEREA needs a bit of care too. IQOS UAE says packs shouldn’t be kept somewhere too humid or too dry, as this can affect the aerosol. A sealed carton in a cool cupboard is fine. Our post on a damaged or heat-exposed TEREA carton covers what to check on delivery.
Common questions
Do I need a cleaning tool for ILUMA?
No. IQOS UAE describes ILUMA as having no blade and needing no cleaning. Cleaning tools were made for older blade holders, and you won’t need one with ILUMA i.
Can I use water or alcohol on ILUMA i?
IQOS UAE doesn’t tell you to, and it asks for the charging ports to be kept dry. So we’d leave water, alcohol and any cleaning liquid out of it.
How do you clean IQOS ILUMA i ONE?
The same idea, just with one less part. ILUMA i ONE has no separate Holder, so the only spot IQOS UAE mentions is the charging port. Keep it and the cable end dry and free of dust.
Why does my ILUMA taste different after a while?
It’s usually not the device. IQOS UAE says TEREA kept somewhere too humid or too dry can change the aerosol, so check where your packs are stored. If the device itself won’t heat, see our guide below.
