TEREA Pearl Flavours

Quick answer: TEREA Pearl means the TEREA sticks with a capsule in the filter, for IQOS ILUMA. Press that little pearl and the tobacco gets a fruit, berry or mint aroma over it. Never press it and the stick stays plain tobacco. We stock 15 Pearl listings made in Japan, Indonesia and Uzbekistan, and the same name can taste different from one country to the next.

What exactly is the pearl in a TEREA stick?

Nothing to do with jewellery. Look at the filter end of a stick: a tiny flavour capsule is tucked inside, and that's the pearl. Pinch the filter until it gives under your fingers, and that's the aroma out. Do it before the stick goes in the holder, or take a few plain puffs first and pinch it halfway. Once pressed it stays pressed, and a stick is a single session either way. Don't pull one apart afterwards, because TEREA carries a sharp metal piece that the ILUMA heats from within.

Will a Sun Pearl from Japan taste like one from Indonesia?

No. Philip Morris builds a different TEREA range for each market, and it happily reuses a Pearl name on a new recipe. Take Sun Pearl: from Japan it's the watermelon one, from Indonesia it's simply sweet fruit, and from Uzbekistan it's exotic fruit over spicy, herbal tobacco. IQOS's Saudi page for Sun Pearl mentions toasted tobacco, light spicy-herb notes and a click that brings cooling watermelon.

Oasis Pearl goes the same way. From Indonesia it's tropical fruit; from Japan it's passion fruit with menthol. Four Indonesia sticks also carry the clove note Indonesian tobacco is known for: Bermin, Perint, Passion Fruit and Strawberry. If clove isn't your thing, stay with the Japan and Uzbekistan editions.

Pearl, Wave or Black: which fruit stick suits you?

If you like fruit but not a capsule, TEREA makes it without one too. There's no pearl in a Wave stick, because the aroma is blended into the tobacco at the factory, and we carry two of them: Summer Wave from Uzbekistan, which the maker calls refreshing tobacco with fruit and floral notes, and Bright Wave from Indonesia, a colder one where menthol comes first and a green-fruit aroma follows. For a proper cold hit, Black Ruby Indonesia from the Black series is strong menthol with a raspberry-led red berry. The Indonesia Edition sticks go the clove route without a pearl: Berrine Edition mixes clove, cooling menthol and fruit-floral notes, while Mulint Edition brings clove, a fresh cooling sensation and a berry-like aroma.

Never press the capsule and most Pearls are simply tobacco, which the regular range gives you anyway. Smooth Regular Japan is rounded roasted tobacco with no menthol, and Teak Switzerland is toasted tobacco with creamy, nutty notes. Our Pearl capsule guide covers pressing technique; the Indonesia editions comparison helps with the clove ones.

Common questions

Do I have to press the pearl?

No. Leave it be and you stay on the plain tobacco base. Press it when you want the aroma, before the first puff or partway through.

Is TEREA Oasis Pearl a menthol stick?

It depends on the edition. In Oasis Pearl Japan the capsule carries menthol together with the passion fruit. Oasis Pearl Indonesia is tropical fruit on a tobacco base, with far less cooling. For plain mint rather than fruit, Tidal Pearl Uzbekistan is the one.

Can I use a TEREA stick twice?

No. One stick is one session, and the ILUMA ends it on its own. A capsule releases once; pressing it a second time does nothing.

Which IQOS devices take TEREA Pearl?

Any ILUMA: ILUMA, ILUMA PRIME and ILUMA ONE, plus the newer ILUMA i ONE, ILUMA i and ILUMA i PRIME. Blade devices such as IQOS 3 DUO don't take TEREA, and BLENDS A sticks for IQOS BONDS are a separate thing.
