How Do You Charge IQOS ILUMA i, ILUMA i ONE and ILUMA i PRIME?
Quick answer: On ILUMA i and ILUMA i PRIME you charge the Pocket Charger with its cable and a wall adaptor, and the Holder charges when you put it back inside. On ILUMA i ONE you plug the cable straight into the device. A full charge takes about 135 minutes for ILUMA i and PRIME and about 90 minutes for ILUMA i ONE, and four solid white lights mean it’s full.
People who’ve just unboxed a kit ask us this all the time. So we’ve put it all on one page. Everything below on times and lights comes from the official IQOS UAE first-steps guides for each model. Where those guides don’t give a number, we say so instead of guessing.
How do you charge each ILUMA i model?
Cable into the device, adaptor into the wall. The only real question is which part the cable goes into, and that depends on your model. The adaptor is sold separately according to the IQOS guide, so use a compatible one you already have or pick one up.
With ILUMA i and ILUMA i PRIME you get two pieces. There’s a Holder, which is the bit you put the stick in, and a Pocket Charger that refills it. The cable goes into the Pocket Charger. To top up the Holder, you just slide it back into the Pocket Charger after a session (on PRIME you also close the wrap).
ILUMA i ONE is all in one piece. There’s no separate Holder, so the cable plugs into the device itself.
Here’s the routine for the two-part models:
- Make sure the device is switched on. If it isn’t, hold the Pocket Charger button for 4 seconds.
- Put the Holder into the Pocket Charger. On PRIME, close the wrap.
- Plug the cable into the Pocket Charger, then put the adaptor in a wall socket.
- Leave it be until it’s full.
For ILUMA i ONE you skip the Holder step. Just plug it in and keep an eye on the lights.
Brand new device? Give it a full charge first, IQOS is clear on that. After that their guides say charge it daily. Plugging it in by the bed at night makes that easy.
| Model | Full charge from the wall | How you read the level |
|---|---|---|
| ILUMA i ONE | About 90 minutes | Strip lights: each solid white light is roughly 25% |
| ILUMA i | About 135 minutes | Pocket Charger strip lights, Holder light and dashes on the touch screen |
| ILUMA i PRIME | About 135 minutes | Pocket Charger strip lights, Holder light and dashes on the touch screen |
How do you know the battery is full?
Four white lights that don’t blink. That’s a full battery. They pulse the whole time it’s charging, so once they go steady you can pull the plug.
On ILUMA i ONE the lights also tell you roughly where you are. Each solid white light is worth about a quarter.
Got ILUMA i or PRIME? Press the Pocket Charger button and let go. The strip lights show its level. The Holder’s got a little status light of its own too, and that’s the one to look at for the Holder battery.
A totally flat battery can seem dead for a moment when you first plug in. Nothing’s wrong. It blinks yellow at first. Once the charge passes 7%, that blinking changes from yellow to white.
How many sticks does one charge give?
The IQOS UAE first-steps guides don’t give a single sticks-per-charge figure for these models, so we won’t make one up. What they do give is a hint on ILUMA i: the touch screen shows dashes for the Holder. See two dashes? That’s up to 3 more experiences. One dash is up to 2.
Charge every day, and on the two-part models put the Holder back in the Pocket Charger after each stick so it’s ready for the next one.
If you’re still choosing a model and battery life matters to you, our ILUMA i ONE, Standard and PRIME comparison sets the three side by side.
Why won’t my ILUMA i charge?
Most of the time it’s the power source or the device being switched off, not a broken battery. Before you assume the worst, go through these checks one at a time:
- Is it switched on? With ILUMA i or PRIME, keep the Pocket Charger button held down for 4 seconds and then plug back in.
- Was the battery completely empty? Then wait a bit, since on a dead battery the first yellow blink can lag by a few seconds.
- Try a different adaptor and cable. IQOS asks for a compatible AC adaptor and cable, so an old phone plug or a worn cable may be the reason.
- Try another wall socket.
- On the two-part models, take the Holder out and seat it again properly. On PRIME, make sure the wrap is closed.
Charging okay but the stick won’t heat up? That’s another issue altogether. Our guide on when ILUMA i is not heating TEREA walks through it. And if none of the steps above help, the IQOS UAE support team is the right place to ask about the device itself.
New to the device in general? Our how to use IQOS ILUMA i guide covers switching on, inserting a stick and pausing a session.

Give it a full charge first. That’s roughly 135 minutes on ILUMA i or PRIME and about 90 on ILUMA i ONE. Wait till you see four solid white lights.
